We are an “al fresco” kind of family! We love to do most everything outside … playing, eating, visiting friends, chilling, celebrating, exercising, and the list goes on and on.

I grew up in Central Illinois along the Illinois River with a big timber and a conservation area to enjoy as my playground. During the summer, my sister and I and our friends pretty much spent from sun-up to sun-down out there exploring and enjoying all that Mother Nature had to offer. I knew that once I had kids that is exactly how I wanted them to be raised, no matter how or where we were living … in a city, in the country, or somewhere in between. I learned so much about science, math, engineering, and more right in my own backyard. The outdoors also offer so much to families and usually at little to no cost.

I became a mom through fostering and then adopting. We have made it a priority to get the girls and our family outside as much as possible. The only thing in the beginning that put a little damper on our plan was that we found out they suffered from allergies, just like myself and my husband. I immediately talked to our pediatrician and asked her for advice on how to help them deal with the allergies, so we could continue to enjoy doing the things we loved to do so much as a family.

I was pleasantly surprised when she recommended we try Children’s Claritin®️ for a bit and see if it would help them. Both my husband and I take Claritin®️ and have had great success with it even during the worst allergy times of the year. What we found out was that it worked amazingly well for them, too, and we’ve never stopped enjoying our park hopping, hiking, al fresco dining, sports, or just chilling with the family outside since then.

When I read about a recent survey from the makers of Claritin®️ that had found 72% of parents surveyed believe their family doesn’t spend enough time outside and when they do get outside 49% of parents surveyed feel that their kids find the outdoors boring, I was shocked. Outdoor play helps build confidence in kids, promotes happiness and creativity and even teaches responsibility. What more could a parent ask for, right?

As the Publisher of Macaroni Kid Yorkville – Geneva – St. Charles, I am often offered opportunities to work with major brands. So, when this campaign came along, I knew I had to work on it. It would possibly be a way for me to reach parents and help those who are dealing with what Claritin®️ had found in the survey.

We have made sure our girls have outside time daily. They get to enjoy the outdoors at their school where outside time is a priority as well - including Fresh Air Fridays where they spend a great deal of the school day learning in nature - at nature-based summer camps, and through their after school and summer care where they swim, hike, and just play in nature. And of course, enjoying our weekends finding new parks and outdoor activities that we can enjoy as a family. Thanks to Claritin®️, I knew I could be a resource for other parents who want that for their kids and families as well.

Since spending time outside for the girls and us as a family is a top priority for me, I am excited to partner with Claritin®️ to show kids and their families what Mother Nature has to offer and how nature can teach so much about life just by being immersed in it.

To give parents the resources they may need to offer their kids more opportunity to truly enjoy the great outdoors, Claritin®️ has launched The Outsideologist Project, which aims to get 1.2 million kids outside for an extra hour each week. The initiative provides families with expert-guided activities to bust boredom and foster a love of the outdoors.
