Memorial Day Events in the Area

Yorkville

Post Colors: 7:30 a.m. Monday. Yorkville American Legion Post 489, 9054 E. Veterans Parkway, Yorkville. 630-553-7117.

Cemetery visits: American Legion Post 489 will hold brief ceremonies at six cemeteries Monday: 8:30 a.m. Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Route 47 near Ament Road, Yorkville; 9 a.m. Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, located on Immanuel Road north of Walker Road, Yorkville; 9:30 a.m. Pavillion Cemetery, located on Pavillion Road between Highway 71 and Highview Drive, Yorkville; 10 a.m. Bristol (Oak Grove) Cemetery, 2908 Cannonball Trail, Bristol; and 10:30 a.m. Elmwood Cemetery, Somonauk Street near Game Farm Road, Yorkville.

Ceremony: Noon. Monday. Town Square Park, 301 N. Bridge St., Yorkville.

Elburn

Memorial Day Parade
The annual Memorial Day Parade is hosted by American Legion Post 630 and starts at 10 a.m. at Lions Park and ends at Blackberry Township Cemetery.  The ceremony includes the reading of "Flanders Field" and the reading of the names of local veterans buried in the area.  The Elburn Boy Scout Troop 7 hosts a Memorial Day pancake breakfast from 7:00 am to 9:30 am at the American Legion Post 630 building, 112 N. Main Street.

Batavia

Ceremony: 10-11 a.m. Monday. Batavia VFW Overseas Post 1197, 645 S. River St., Batavia. 630-879-9630.

Geneva

Parade: 10 a.m. Monday. Begins at Geneva Metra station, 328 Crescent Place, travels north on 3rd Street to Westside Cemetery on Stevens Street.

St. Charles

Flag Raising Ceremony: 6 a.m. Monday. Baker Community Center, 101 S. 2nd St., St. Charles.

Cemetery Ceremonies: 6:30 a.m. Monday. Begin at South Cemetery (east side of 7th Avenue, north of Madison Avenue), continue to North Cemetery (west side of IL 25/5th Avenue, north of Johnor Avenue), and conclude at Union Cemetery (east side of IL 25/5 Avenue, north of Stonebridge Road).

Parade: 10 a.m. Monday. Steps off at 6th and Main streets, continues to Riverside Avenue.

Ceremony: 10:45 a.m. Monday. Ceremony begins immediately following parade at the Freedom Shrine, located behind the St. Charles Police Department, 211 N. Riverside Ave. In case of inclement weather, ceremony will be held inside St. Charles Fire Station 1, 112 N. Riverside Ave.
